Eating delicious food and enjoying your time with family tend to be the focus for Thanksgiving, and that’s fantastic (especially if you’re making a healthy meal) yet the central activity of the day shouldn’t be forgotten: Thanks-giving = Giving thanks.

Eight Kitchen Must-Have Tools

Transitioning into a plant-based diet requires commitment, knowledge, and a strong desire to change for the better. If your main reason for doing it is health, then you must know that you will be using your kitchen A LOT and preparing many meals at home. For some people, it can be a new world of fun because they get to be creative and adventurous in the kitchen. Especially if you really enjoy great flavors and a satisfaction-guaranteed kind of meal, it is rewarding to be in control of the level of deliciousness you get to experience on a daily basis. Of course, there are those who see it as yet another load of things to add to their endless to do list. We understand that it can be discouraging at times if cooking is not something you are used to doing, or because you have a misinformed association regarding the exquisite flavors the Plant Kingdom has to offer. And sometimes it can be overwhelming because you don’t know where to begin. One basic thing that you can do to make this new adventure more fun is to get your kitchen ready with the necessary tools that will make your experience a smooth transition. Read More…

An Exercise in Gratitude

The thought and feeling of gratitude are among the most powerful tools of creation. Thinking about the things in your life that you are grateful for having not only makes you appreciate them more – it also sends out a message of “have” versus “lack” into the Universe. And since you attract what you are, you activate the mechanism that allows you to have that which you desire and are thankful for. Gratitude is most powerful when followed by action – when thought and deed are aligned – so showing your gratitude brings even more of this ‘have’ energy to you. Thinking, feeling, and acting thankful every day doesn’t take much – just awareness of what you’re already doing and connecting these to the thought and feeling of gratitude. Here are some examples: Read More…

A Positive Attitude: Putting You Back in the Driver’s Seat

Positive Attitude

It’s said that life is all about attitude. What does this mean? I used to get really annoyed at people who talked about being optimistic and having a positive attitude (talk about a negative attitude!) To me, they weren’t seeing reality, just some fantasy, and this wasn’t going to help solve or improve anything. I was wrong on both accounts. First off, reality is in the eye of the beholder. To prove that, I’ll challenge you to a little experiment: Go to a restaurant/club/museum/gathering and bring a friend along. After you leave, think about how you would describe the place – decor, ambiance, people, etc…Then ask your friend to describe it. Even though both of you were at the same place at the same time, your descriptions will somewhat differ. Each person has a version of reality according to his or her  expectations, focus, mood, memories, and interactions. Reality, then, varies according to the person experiencing it. Read More…

Feng Shui: An Art of Symbolism and Intuition

Feng Shui

My first brush with Feng Shui taught me something very interesting: It’s not about what you put in the “gua” it’s about the intention you put it with and the meaning behind the symbol you use. A great book that exemplifies these principles for applying the Chinese art of conscious environment decor is Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life, written by Karen Rauch Carter. The author not only explains the role of intention in purposeful positioning of furnishings and symbols, she also does so with wit, simplicity and a whole lot of hilarity. Read More…

On Looking Within

on looking inside

We’re told that all of the answers we need are within us, and to look “inside” for them – but what does that really mean? Many times we’re left with an image of an elevated figure and a feeling that we should be meditating on top a mountain in order to find these internal answers, and since we’re busy people with 9-5s, we feel even worse because we can’t get there. Don’t despair. Looking within may be a lot more simple – and closer – than you think. Read More…
